Contract Review for Structural Steel Projects
A great review can minimize the risks to the fabricator or the erector by bringing in experienced personnel with technical expertise in a wider variety of fabrication and erection issues to evaluate the steel building structure contract specifications and documents. Whether the review turns up valuable pitfalls avoided, or a comfort that your own internal review is solid, the piece of mind on a stretch project is well worth it.
Often the more costly requirements of missed requirements for example: AESS; sophisticated painting systems; fracture critical; the application of demand critical welds and protected zones (seismic) can be identified and a strategy can be crafted for presentation to the customer. This review should be considered a non-PE review for constructability and productivity improvement.
Atema’s experienced technical personnel can perform reviews of RFPs (requests for proposals) and complex contract specifications and drawings upon request. A written review with discussion can be provided that identifies specific project code compliance (such as wind and seismic considerations), unique or special material, welding and bolting requirements in the specifications that may affect fabrication or erection processes.
Constructability issues can be evaluated with specific recommendations provided for optimizing processes in the shop environment. Welded and bolted connections can be optimized for fabrication and erection with suggestions for possible changes and cost savings that can be forwarded for approval or consideration to the engineer of record (EOR). Specific recommendations for weld joint fit-up and configuration, welding processes, and WPSs can be provided to improve shop throughput and minimize erection time. Submittals, site safety, and reporting requirements can also be identified.
